Apply THERMO-SHIELD® in the spring or in the summer and it will draw the water out of the walls little by little which has been absorbed by the brickwork over the years. A building surface which has been coated with THERMO-SHIELD® acts like a human body when it sweats: The water evaporates from the surface, leaving it cool. Uncomfortable heat is then effectively drawn out from the inside of the building. In order to allow this important process to carry on undisturbed, the coating protects itself against damage by repelling harmful solar radiation. The ceramic bubbles work together with the bonding agent to prevent unwanted heat build-up on the building's surface due to the sun, no matter what color coating is used. The result: A noticeable decrease in temperature inside the building and energy savings due to a reduction in air-conditioning costs

Keeping Dry Keeps you warm in the Winter Months

At the same time, THERMO-SHIELD® Exterior prepares the building for winter during the summer months. The brickwork is dryer and thus acts as an excellent storage area for heat, because only a dry coat can keep you warm. Therefore, the building needs to be heated less, as the "brickwork storage area" has enough heat stored that is only depleted slowly. On the inside of the building, the occupant enjoys the higher temperatures emanating from the inner surfaces of the walls. This results in more comfort at lower heating costs. These scenarios repeat themselves year after year. If you take a glass out of the refrigerator and leave it at room temperature, a lot of condensation will form on the outside of the glass. This is the exact same process that will occur when winter is over and the temperatures rise; the condensation will form on the cold outer walls and will then evaporate. Thus, there is a permanent supply of cooling for the building as well as dry walls in the winter time

How Does THERMO-SHIELD® Work

The energy saving THERMO-SHIELD®coating consists of a special water-based bonding agent, which contains millions of very small vacuum glass ceramic bubbles (20 to 120 Micrometers). After drying, the film is polymerized to a 0.3mm strong, elastic, sealed but moisture permeable structure (coating). The characteristics of this coating ensure the energy-saving feature. It sets itself apart from traditional notions which are based on the reduction of energy loss. The bubbles "filter" the thermal flow in infrared low temperatures and reflect and disperses up to 25 percent of the heat. In this way, the surface of the coating radiates three times less heat than brick or concrete for example. The coating's water permeability with a sufficient level of vapor diffusion ("breathing activity") guarantees the drying of building materials and increases their actual thermal resistance. In addition, heat loss is reduced by 7 to 9 percent. This results in a complex of various physical effects that can all be found within the thin coating. The scientific term for this is: "Oberflächenbeschichtung mit endothermischen Effekten®" "Surface coating with endo-thermal effects". With that, the heat loss in a building protected by THERMO-SHIELD® is reduced and the building's heating costs are lowered by 20 to 30 percent. Air-conditioning costs in the Summer or in hot climate zones can be reduced by 30 to 60 percent in those buildings where no insulation was used.

THERMO-SHIELD® is available in many contemporary colors. With the help of the THERMO-SHIELD® Color Mix computer program, more than 4,000 different color tones can be produced. Therefore, you will be able to find a color you like. THERMO-SHIELD® products are applied in the same way as conventional paint. It can easily be applied to surfaces such as plaster, concrete or metal. No special equipment or preparation is needed. All you need is a roller or a brush. Airless sprayers can also be used for larger surfaces. The protective coating dries the surface efficiently. No harmful solvents or vapors are released during or after applying the product.
