THERMO-SHIELD® HAS BEEN WIDELY TESTED IN ACCREDITED LABORATORIES AND IN ACTUAL FIELD TEST.

AMERICAN ASTM TESTING RESULTS ON THERMO-SHIELD® ROOF COATING

TENSILE STRENGTH  ASTM D-412  *pdf     9

ü      Tensile stress at 25% elongation  is 525 psi

ü      Tensile strength at break is  615 psi, elongation 70%

DETERIORATION BY HEATING IN AIR - ASTM D-865 *pdf  10

Tensile strength after heating 21 days at 150°C

ü      Tensile stress at 25% elongation is 515 psi

ü      Tensile strength at break is 640 psi, elongation 85%

ü      Important: Comparing these results to those in the above TENSILE STRENGTH test shows that the roof coating actually gets stronger and more durable with age.

WATER VAPOR PERMEABILITY ASTM D-1653   11 *pdf  and PERMEABILITY -ASTM E-96

ü      Both tests show the roof coating has 8.8 perm. which exceeds requirements for a class 1 rating. This astounding permeability is 160 times greater than one of our main competitors claiming to produce a permeable paint.

WATER ABSORPTION - ASTM D-570   *pdf  12

ü      After water saturation for 5 weeks, there were no changes on the roof coating after reconditioning .The roof coating will stand up to ponding water, yet has the ability to breathe out trapped water vapor in dry weather (Based on permeability tests). This allows waterproofing without blistering.

BRITTLENESS - ASTM D-746  *pdf   14

ü      The roof coating passed the 90° bend test at -37° C, displaying flexibility at extremely cold temperatures.

SURFACE OZONE CRACKING TEST - ASTM D-1149.  *pdf 13

ü After 70 days of intense ozone exposure, the roof coating showed no signs of wear.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE - ASTM D-1380   *pdf    1

ü      In a 16-hour spot test of  26 harsh or staining chemicals, the roof coating blistered only with some concentrated acids,  and stained only with gasoline, aircraft hydraulic fluids and lipstick.

ü      The roof coating was undamaged by animal urine, battery acid, bleach, deicing chemical, 40% salt solution and others.

STEADY STATE HEAT FLUX MEASUREMENTS - THERMAL TRANSMISSION PROPERTIES ASTM  D-177 / ASTM C-1045

      ü      Roof Coating (At 5-mil thickness):  K-value = .0454,  R-value 22

ü      Note: Some specialists say the ASTM formula for R-value in this test "R = 1/.K" is oversimplified and does not take enough information into consideration

THERMO-SHIELDâ  roof coating is available with a CLASS A fire resistant rating. NOTE: This is a special Class-A formula, not our standard formula.

JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARDS TESTS "JIS" (Materials must meet strict guidelines before they can be sold in the Japanese market.) THERMO-SHIELDâ ROOFING, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR COATINGS have passed all required  tests.

LOW TEMPERATURE STABILITY- JIS A 6906 (1984) 5.5 RESISTANCE TO CRACKING DURING CURINGAND DRYING STAGE - JIS A 6906 (1984)

5.7 ADHESION STRENGTH TEST - JIS A 6909 (1984) 5.8

ü      On the Normal Condition Test, THERMO-SHIELDâ  had 3 times the requirement for Adhesion.

ü      After the Saturation Test, THERMO-SHIELDâ  had 8 times the  requirement for Adhesion. REPEATED TEMPERATURE CHANGE - JIS A6909 (1984) 5.9

ü      Even under extreme temperature fluctuations, the coating showed no signs of peeling, cracking, blistering or discoloration.  TEST FOR WATERPROOF - JIS A 6909 (1984) 5.10

ü THERMO-SHIELDâ  Performed Ten Times better than required to be classified as waterproof . WASHABILITY - JIS A6909 (1984) 5.11 IMPACT, SHOCK TEST - JIS A6909 (1984) 5.12

ü      Did not crack, peel, or change form under impact  ALKALINITY  TEST - JIS A 6909 (1984) 5.13.2

ü      Did not crack, blister, peel, gum, change color or dull  RESISTANCE TO WEATHER & CLIMATE - JIS A 6909 (1984) 5.14

ü      When exposed to the elements, the coating didn't crack peel or discolor above a #3 gray scale.

ü      The coating had the best color retention of all 15 paints tested. FIRE RESISTANCE TEST, CLASS 1 - JIS A 1321

ü      Flame Retention: No flame remained over 30 seconds after heating stopped. The retention was 0.

ü      The coating did not fuse, crevice, change form, or bow when cooled.

HAUSER LABORATORIES TESTS

1) THERMO-SHIELDâ Interior Coating had a heat transfer 0.871 B'I'U/hr/Sq.-Ft., whereas standard white paint had a heat transfer 1.163 BTU/hr Sq.-Ft. Normal white paint allowed 33% more heat to pass through.    *pdf  8

2)  THERMO-SHIELDâ Roof Coating had a solar heat transfer of 6.1 BTU/hr/Sq.-Ft. Black Asphalt had a solar heat transfer of 38.1 BTU/hr/Sq.-Ft. Asphalt allowed 84% more heat to pass through.    *pdf   7

3)  THERMO-SHIELDâ Roof Coating on galvanized steel had a solar heat transfer of 17.2 BTU/hr/Sq-Ft. Untreated Galvanized Steel had a heat transfer of 48.0 BTU/hr/Sq-Ft. Untreated steel allowed 64% more heat pass through.   *pdf  6

HEMISPHERICAL LIGHT REFLECTANCE TEST       DSET Test 89r 121001  *pdf    4

ü      The roof coating reflected 82% of sunlight ( 88% of visual light and 84% of NIR "near infrared" ).

ü      Reflectance of other typical roof systems: Dark pea gravel 12% - Light pea gravel 34% - gravel coated asphalt 23% - black roof 5% - dark gray 15% - white paint 55% - aluminum 40% - aluminum fiber coating 36% - white asphalt shingles 30% - SPM-6O (EPDM) 11%.   WATER EXTRACTABLES-SIMULATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL LEACHING  2

ü      THERMO-SHIELDâ Roof Coating leachables are composed of common, Non-Toxic elements (mostly calcium salts).
